Edison Township Public Schools Gifted & Talented Program Website Link
The Edison Township Public Schools Gifted and Talented program will be an extension of your child’s regular classroom curriculum; it is a pull out program that will meet for 90 minutes per week. Students will be responsible for adhering to the same expectations that are part of their daily classroom experience. This includes positive collaboration with classmates as well as being prepared with the necessary assignments, supplies and homework.
Our program will be split into three sections over the course of the year; Math, Engineering and English Language Arts. Students have a responsibility to come to class prepared, do their best work, and complete in-depth homework assignments on a timely basis.
Students are expected to have the following supplies with them every week:
● Pencils
● Notebook
● Pocket folder
Curriculum Framework for 2017-2018 School Year
Our Goal:
Moving towards the Growth Mindset
One of our main goals this year will be to guide your child to move away from the fixed mindset, and towards a growth mindset. Your child will be faced with challenges, setbacks, criticism, and success of others. The goal is to learn from those experiences so that they can reach their full potential. Effort is the key to mastery!

How you can help:
- Encourage their curiosity and love of learning. Ask them questions! Engage in deep discussions over observations made while in the car, on a trip, in the grocery store, etc.
- Be PATIENT. They may debate with you over fairness of consequences, or injustice while playing a game. Take a deep breath and discuss it with them in an adult manner, rather than dismissing them as a complaining child.
- Understanding perfectionism. Being a perfectionist is a common trait among gifted children, and it isn't something to be "cured," but you can help them cope. Allow your child extra time to complete activities, but also guide them in knowing when it is an appropriate time to stop. They do need to learn to adhere to deadlines and know when enough is enough.
- Remember that your child IS A CHILD. They may often act older and more mature than their age, but they still need time to play and be a kid! :)
